The cost of purchasing a pet and then caring for it throughout its life is costly especially if the animal becomes sick or injured.

In fact, Australians spend much more on their pets’ health than their own.

Of the $198.2 billion in household expenditure, 6 per cent — $12.3 billion — is spent on healthcare, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics data. But when it comes to the $6 billion we spend on our animals each year, 37 per cent is shelled out on pet health.
