Pet Insurance Association Appoints Susan McManus as President

NAPHIA’s new President

NAPHIA’s Board of Directors has announced that it has formally elected Susan McManus as the association’s new President, by special vote.

The board also thanked outgoing President Randy Valpy, who is departing as Top Dog at Pets Plus Us. Chris Middleton of Pets Best Insurance and incumbent Stephen Popovich of Pet Partners will continue to serve as the association’s Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.

McManus joined Nationwide in 1993, and she recently accepted a broader role as Vice President of Personal Lines Marketing at the Fortune 100 company. Prior to this, she served as Nationwide’s Vice President of Pet Marketing and Strategic Initiatives.

According to Kristen Lynch, Executive Director of NAPHIA, “With more than two decades of marketing leadership experience at Nationwide, inclusive of her role overseeing marketing strategy at North America’s first and largest pet health insurance provider, Susan will bring unique insight and perspective to the leadership of NAPHIA. “We appreciate her willingness to step up and serve as President, especially as her role within Nationwide has recently expanded.”

According to NAPHIA’s State of the Industry Report released in May of this year, the pet insurance market in North America is healthy. More than 1.6 million pets were insured at year-end 2015 in North America, which represents an average annual growth rate of 12.0% from 2014.

“I’m very excited to lead NAPHIA,” said McManus. “With the robust growth in this market, and strong industry support of our association, we are well-positioned to work together to realize some of the huge opportunities opening up for the pet insurance industry.”
