AVMA House of Delegates to Consider Resolution on Pet Insurance

AVMA Amends Pet Insurance Position

Resolution 7 has now been referred to the AVMA House of Delegates for consideration during the upcoming AVMA conference.

Kent Kruse DVM and longtime veterinary practice consultant feels strongly that the resolution should be passed on behalf of the profession. “In short, pet health insurance benefits are the only supplements to client discretionary cash which don’t have to be re-paid. They are THE most effective tool to reduce the incidence of economic euthanasia. The veterinary profession is the only medically related profession whose companion animal doctors must rely almost entirely on a pet owner’s discretionary cash to pay for a beloved pet’s medical services.”

Kruse believes that it is imperative that veterinarians pro-actively educate pet owners about the importance of protecting the human animal bond with insurance.

The following article explains the resolution and why the House of Delegates should hopefully support and endorse it.
